Your Complete Guide to a Bridal Hair Trial in Vancouver

So you've found your dress, booked your venue, and now everyone's asking: "Have you sorted your hair yet?" If you're a bride in Vancouver or the Fraser Valley, chances are a bridal hair trial is on your to-do list — and it should be! It's honestly one of the most fun parts of wedding planning, and it'll save you so much stress on the morning of your wedding.

Here's everything you need to know before you sit in my chair.

What actually happens at a bridal hair trial?

Think of it as a relaxed, pressure-free practice run. We'll chat about your vision, look at your inspiration photos together, and then I'll get to work creating the style. You'll get to see exactly how your hair looks, how it feels, and — most importantly — how it makes you feel.

We can try more than one style if you're undecided, tweak things, and lock in a plan for your wedding morning. No guessing, no surprises.

When should you book your hair trial?

I always recommend booking your trial 2–3 months before your wedding date. That's close enough that your hair length will be similar to how it'll be on the day, but early enough that you still have time to grow it out, add extensions, or try a second trial if you want to explore more options.

Amanda says: Book your trial and your wedding day at the same time — my calendar fills up fast, especially between May and October!

What to bring to your trial

→  Inspiration photos — at least 3 styles you love AND 3 you don't. Both are equally helpful!

→  Your veil, headpiece, or any hair accessories you plan to wear

→  A photo of your dress neckline — this helps me make sure your style complements it

→  An open mind — sometimes what you think you want shifts once you see options in person

How to prep your hair

Wash your hair the night before your trial — not the morning of. Day-old hair actually holds styles much better than freshly washed hair. Skip the heavy serums or oils near your roots, and avoid using a straightener or curling iron before you arrive. I want to see your natural texture so I can work with it!

What if I don't love the style?

Say so! I mean it. This is your one chance to work things out before the big day, and I would so much rather you tell me honestly than leave feeling uncertain. I'm not precious about it — we'll adjust, try something different, or chat through what's not feeling right. It's all part of the process.

Amanda says: After your trial, take photos from every angle and wear the style out for the day if you can. See how it holds up, how it feels at dinner, how it looks in different lighting. That's valuable information!

Do I really need a trial?

Honestly? Yes. Even if you have a clear vision, how a style translates to your specific hair texture, thickness, and face shape can be totally different from the Pinterest photo. The trial is where we make it yours — not just a style you saw on someone else.

I've styled hundreds of brides across Vancouver and the Fraser Valley, and the ones who are most relaxed on their wedding morning are always the ones who came in for a trial. It removes the guesswork completely.
