Wedding Hair for Every Hair Type — A Vancouver Bride's Guide

One of the most common things I hear from brides? "I'm worried my hair won't work for what I want." Fine hair, thick hair, naturally curly hair, hair that's never held a curl in its life — I've styled all of it, and I'm here to tell you: there is a stunning wedding style for every hair type. You just need to know where to start.

Fine hair
Fine-haired brides often worry they can't achieve the full, lush styles they see on Pinterest. Here's the truth: fine hair is actually easier to work with than most people think — it just needs the right prep and technique.
→ Texturizing sprays and dry shampoo are your best friends before your appointment
→ Extensions (clip-ins or tape-ins) can add volume for the day without any commitment
→ Soft updos, braided styles, and half-up looks suit fine hair beautifully — the structure creates the illusion of more volume
→ Hollywood waves and sculpted blowouts also photograph incredibly well on fine hair
✨ Amanda says: I've worked with brides with really fine hair and created full, gorgeous styles that lasted all day and night. Don't count yourself out before we've even talked!
Thick hair
Thick hair is a blessing and, sometimes, a lot to manage. The good news is you have incredible options — almost any style works with thick hair when it's in the right hands.
→ Updos look dramatic and full on thick hair — a classic romantic chignon or braided updo can be show-stopping
→ Down styles need the right products to feel polished rather than heavy
→ Allow extra time in your getting-ready schedule — thick hair takes longer to style and set properly
One thing I always tell thick-haired brides: prep matters a lot. Come to your trial with clean, dry hair and no heavy products. That's where we get to see what we're really working with.
Naturally curly or wavy hair
This is the area I'm most passionate about right now. The 2026 trend toward embracing natural texture is real, and for good reason — natural curls and waves, when styled properly, are absolutely breathtaking for weddings.
→ Work with your curl pattern instead of fighting it
→ Diffusing and defining your natural curls can create a beautiful, romantic bridal look
→ Half-up styles look incredible on curly hair — they keep your texture visible while adding polish
→ If you want to wear your hair straight, that's completely valid too — just build in extra time and use humidity-resistant products
✨ Amanda says: I've worked on all types of naturally curly hair across the Fraser Valley. Your curls are not a complication — they're the whole point!
Colour-treated or highlighted hair
Vancouver brides with balayage, highlights, or rich colour have a built-in advantage: the dimension in your colour shows up beautifully in photos, especially in natural light. Styles that show off that colour — soft waves, loose half-up looks — tend to photograph particularly well.
If you're planning a colour refresh before your wedding, I'd suggest doing it 2–4 weeks before your date, not the week before, in case you want to adjust the tone.
The most important thing
Whatever your hair type, the best wedding hair is the style that makes you feel like yourself — just on your best day ever. That's what I'm here for.
I've worked with brides from Vancouver to Penticton, in backyard gardens and ballrooms and mountain venues, with every hair texture imaginable. Every single one of them walked out looking incredible — not because I worked magic, but because we found the style that was right for them.
That's what I want for you.
